National Programs

Synapse performs two key functions: serve as a hub for a network of undergraduate chapters that provide support for individuals with brain injuries and provide students with professional and career development opportunities.

Each fall, we host a competitive application process where a small group of students are selected to found chapters at their universities. These students complete an intensive year of service in which we provide them with the training and support to establish programs serving individuals with brain injuries in their communities, including regular meetings with our Director of New Chapter Education and the other chapter founders. The work of our passionate and committed chapter founders has allowed Synapse to grow to 19 universities across the country. Once chapters are established at their universities, our national team continues to support them by connecting student leaders with one another and sharing best practices across the network.

Each spring, Synapse hosts a virtual Future Leaders in Brain Injury Conference to provide students with the knowledge and professional connections to pursue medical specialties and career paths focused on advancing care for those with brain injury. We also have an alumni mentoring program which provides Synapse students with opportunities to engage in longitudinal 1:1 mentoring with our graduates across the country.
