Connection is a Powerful Medicine
Our mission is two-fold: to provide social support for individuals with brain injuries and to educate, equip, and inspire the next generation of leaders in the field of Brain Injury. Synapse is guided by three core values: community, compassion and education.
We believe connecting with others is a powerful way to promote healing and growth. Synapse National is dedicated to building a powerful support network for individuals with brain injuries and raising awareness about brain injuries. We accomplish this through a network of passionate student leaders at universities across the United States. Through peer support group meetings and buddy programs held at chapters around the country, our chapters work to combat the isolation individuals with brain injuries often face.
We draw upon the principles of service learning to accomplish the second aspect of our mission. By engaging directly with individuals with brain injuries in their communities, our students learn about the issues these individuals face in living with a chronic illness. They are encouraged to reflect with their peers on the perspectives and needs of community members and to continually adapt their chapter’s programs to meet these needs. We believe an appreciation of this perspective is key to developing the next generation of compassionate and patient-centered clinicians, researchers and advocates to move the field forward.
Synapse also hosts an annual Future Leaders in Brain Injury Conference to provide students with the knowledge and professional connections to pursue medical specialties and career paths focused on advancing care for those with brain injury.
Join us as we cultivate a powerful community and a network of leaders and advocates for individuals with brain injuries!
